The more Americans buy
The Dark Side Federal government and many States wants to restrict who can have gun ownership and restrict its use to the extent possible.
New York laws operate on a “May Issue” policy. That means a person must “show cause exists” and the local issuing officer can rule that the “show cause exists” is not sufficient without any reason. This is a case at the US Supreme court as this is being written.
There is even a current law proposed that a gun owner can only have a gun if it is always locked in a safe in the owner’s home.
Advocates for more gun control argue that fewer guns, more restrictions will result in fewer deaths. Predicament is (as of 2017) an estimated 393,347,000 guns in civilian possession in the US. The horse is out of the barn. Nearly all gun homicides are committed by gangs and criminals who illegally have guns. The stolen and black market is big. The cities with the most restrictive gun laws have the largest homicide rates.
In the background there is the reality that socialism and private ownership of guns do not mix.
There is a surge in Americans buying firearms in the last couple of years. The Washington Post reported nearly 23 million firearms purchased in 2020. With a widening market of first-time buyers, including many women, minorities, and politically liberal buyers. So why the surge? There are many answers including:
- Racial-justice protest,
- Amid fears of economic and social upheaval,
- Firearm enthusiasts expect tighter gun control measures,
- First-time buyers who say they no longer trust police departments to protect them,
- Elections will bring more restrictive gun-control legislation
The second amendment in the constitution states “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” So how far will the government infringe? Expect as far as you let them. Americans need to check out each candidate on the ballot. Will he or she follow the Constitution and protect all Americans and your right to bear arms.
